Cedar, Mesquite, Pasture Reclaim
Brush Mulching — San Antonio & Hill Country
Cedar, mesquite, huisache, and undergrowth ground in place into protective mulch. The right tool for pasture reclaim, fence lines, view corridors, and fire mitigation.
What Is Brush Mulching?
Brush mulching is the workhorse for clearing dense undergrowth, cedar, mesquite, and saplings across San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country. Single-pass grinding in place — no piles to burn, no debris to haul, no scarred soil. Just brush turned into mulch that protects the ground where vegetation used to be.
Brush mulching uses the same equipment as forestry mulching — a drum or rotary mulcher head on a high-flow skid steer or mini excavator — focused on undergrowth, brush, and saplings rather than larger trees. The mulcher grinds standing vegetation in place and leaves chips on the ground as a protective mat. In the Hill Country that means primarily Ashe juniper (cedar)and dense undergrowth. South of San Antonio it shifts to mesquite, huisache, and thorny brush. Around homes and ranches across the region it's the cleanest way to handle pasture reclaim, fence-line clearing, view corridors, and fire mitigation.
The case for brush mulching is straightforward. Old pasture lost to mesquite can come back to grazing within a season once the brush is gone and sunlight reaches the soil. Cedar-choked Hill Country property gets back its native grass cover and its aquifer water once the cedar is down. Fence lines stay visible and fire-safe. Defensible space around homes and barns reduces the fuel that wildfire feeds on. All of that without the cost or soil scarring of traditional clearing.
Brush mulching isn't the right call for every job. Larger trees(over ~8" trunk diameter) need a mix of mulching and conventional removal. Building pad sites need the stumps and root mat fully extracted, not just ground. Drainage cuts and grading work need raw earth. For everything in between — clearing without building behind it — brush mulching is hard to beat on cost, speed, and finish.

Our Process
Walk + Density Check
On-site walk or aerial review to gauge brush density, identify keep-trees, and plan equipment access.
Quote in 24 Hours
Free per-acre quote with target mulch depth and any special handling on keep-trees or terrain.
Schedule + Mobilize
Right machine for the density — high-flow skid steer with drum mulcher for open pasture, mini ex with rotary for tight access.
Single-Pass Mulching
Operator works in lanes, taking canopy first then trunk. Chips drop where the brush stood.
Final Walk
Walk the property with the customer, hit anything missed, and confirm mulch depth before we roll off.
