Stump grinding uses a rotating cutting wheel to chip away the stump and root flare below ground level. Standard residential work goes 4 to 6 inches below grade — enough to mow over, replant grass, or set landscape on top. Construction-grade grinding goes 12 inches or deeper, sometimes paired with mini excavator work to extract the entire root mat where a new patio, sidewalk, or slab is going in over the spot.

We do three main flavors of stump work. Single-stump residential calls — that one stump in the front yard you've been looking at for two years — get same-day or next-day quotes and quick scheduling. Post-clearing cleanup takes care of every stump left behind after a land clearing job; often bundled with the clearing contract, sometimes a separate trip after the customer decides what depth they want. Hard-to-reach stumps in tight spots — between the house and the fence, against a foundation, on a steep slope — call for smaller portable grinders and a careful operator.

Wood chips are the byproduct. Default is chips left in place, filling the grind hole and making mulch around the spot. Customers prepping for sod or new landscape often want chips hauled off — that's an easy add-on. Either way, the stump goes away.
