Rough + Finish Grading
Grading Contractor — San Antonio
Rough grading after clearing, finish grading before slab or paving, drainage shaping, and driveway grading. Tight tolerances, positive drainage, and a surface ready for what's next.
What Is Grading?
Site Work Solutions runs grading across San Antonio and the surrounding region — the work that turns a cleared site into a usable platform. Box blade and skid steer through laser-guided motor graders, residential tolerances through commercial spec, and drainage that actually drains.
Grading splits into two passes that often happen on the same project. Rough grading is the first cut — bringing the site close to plan elevation after clearing, shaping the major contours, and stockpiling or hauling whatever dirt the cut produces. Tolerances run a few tenths of a foot; the goal is to be close enough that finish grading can dial it in. Finish grading is the tight pass — final elevation, positive drainage in every direction, smooth surface ready for slab, paving, sod, or landscape.
On a residential lot most of the work happens with a box blade on a skid steer or compact tractor — fast, maneuverable, accurate enough for the tolerances residential work needs, and capable of getting into tight spots around existing trees and structures. On larger sites we bring motor graders, dozers, and laser-guided systems for finish work over bigger footprints where consistency over distance matters.
The point of grading isn't a level site — it's a drained site. Pad surfaces above surrounding grade with positive fall in every direction. Swales shaped away from buildings. Driveways tied into street drainage. No flat spots that pond, no water funneled at foundations. Get that right and the structure stands dry; get it wrong and the customer pays for that mistake every time it rains.
